Kathleen Draper

Kathleen Draper has been deeply involved in many areas of biochar research, communication, and outreach for the past six years. She routinely collaborates with biochar experts from around the globe as the Chairman of the International Biochar Initiative (IBI), moderator for IBI’s biochar education webinar series, and the US Director of the Ithaka Institute for Carbon Intelligence. She has lectured on biochar in several countries and provides consulting services to companies entering the biochar industry. She is editor of the online review, The Biochar Journal.

Jim Dunlop

Jim Dunlop works as a horticultural research manager for a progressive fruit orchard in the Columbia River Gorge. Jim also operates a small farm and a community farm stand in Oregon with his wife and coauthor, Rebecca Thistlethwaite, and their daughter, Fiona. They previously owned TLC Ranch in Watsonville, California, where they raised organic, pastured livestock and poultry, selling to direct markets across Northern California.

Ron L. Engeland

For the past fifteen years, author Ron Engeland has farmed organically with his wife, Watershine, and two children in north central Washington state. In addition to garlic they raise over 100 varieties of apples, plus peaches, apricots, plums, raspberries, potatoes, and cut and dried flowers. Ron also manages an irrigation company and writes numerous articles. He is a former state secretary of the Washington Tilth Producers’ Cooperative, and served three years on the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board.
