Hi there Makenna,

I agree with 'Leiner', the way you write you blog is really amazing. It make us do the small things that we sometimes miss out. I'm into planting as well before but because of hectic schedule too bad didn't make it. Hopefully, I can make it this time. By the way, thank you for posting the recipe you've found. I'll try that one too. :)

Really a nice story. Keep it up!

Now I know that I was not alone yesterday digging weeds, moving some rock around. You help
validate what is profoundly simple. Grounding. Ah to discover an old stone wall..( now there's the rub!)...with that I am jealous. It is an honor to have so much life around you. I love that you share it. I am going to send this to my daughters who are in college. They'll appreciate your new perspective.

Makenna--Sweeties to the Sweet! You go girl. I can't wait to hear how planting season goes. Never thought I'd get so excited for someone who is anticipating the arrival of laying hens. But maybe it has more to do with being allowed to bear witness to you living your life on your own terms--even as you remember the humbling lessons of the ever-increasing Vermont rock population. Keep us posted on it all. We don't want to miss anything xoxo

I wouldn't use stone as seats for the bonfire. You'd be surprised how hot they can get, even when far from the fire. Trust me, it hurts!

I love these blogs. They remind me of the small, important things that the eye misses if one is moving too fast. Like that frog, or the rocks. I guess you couldn't miss them. Love what TJ said about rocks in Vermont, I noticed that was the case in my garden in Wales, too. Maybe in COlorado also. Ah, life. I think the happiest I was, was when I was working in my garden,( at both times I had little babies), and writing about 2-3 hours a day, making bread and cooking. But, times were different then. We lived on less, weren't thinking about being famous, (or maybe we were?) and everything seemed possible. Then our dreams somehow became bigger than our pockets books. It stuns me to think about how much we lived on back then and what it takes to keep my stove going now.
Looking back I will say without a doubt two of the most important things to know about in life are: a budget and knowing how to make bread.

Are you selling any of these "sweeties," or just keeping them for you and your "two men?" I once heard that the only things that grows well in Vt are rocks... you keep clearing them and they keep appearing in the ground as if some joker planted them a long time ago.
