Thanks for your suggestion. I have worked in an agricultural engineering college for more than 20 years. I am familiar with farming techniques and machinery required for farming & harvesting. I encouraged the farming of medicinal plants like Japanese Mint, Lemon Grass etc in 1973-75 in India. I am sure I will find similar opportunities in USA.

It takes courage to live your authentic self. Props to you for boldly living "your" life.

Now that you have room to garden you may find interest in using herbs in a number of ways (edible, medicinal, cosmetic). If so, here's a great resource right in VT. http://www.sagemountain.com/ I've taken their apprenticeship course and found it to be very useful.

Good luck and best wishes.

Hi Makenna,
You should really check out the Jenna Woginrich's Cold Antler Farm blog, http://coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com/, as well as her book, "Made from Scratch: Pleasures of a Handmade Life." (Full disclosure, we just printed some of Jenna's work in the magazine I work for, "Mother Earth News.") Her book is full of great tips and stories from her own experiences getting started with getting back to the land (including growing her own food). She's currently based in Vermont, as well.

Best of luck to you!

Sam, don't knock the mullet. In fact, I think Makenna should try a mullet. Maybe it'll become the badge of honor for all of those who pursue the good life, whether by ditching the city in favor of the farm or vice versa.
